Freedom Beyond Belief

2018

Plaster, pearlescent material, date syrup

47 × 59 inches

Freedom Beyond Belief examines material as a carrier of value, labor, and memory. The sculptural form centers the hands as a site of memory and history. Developed alongside research into pearl diving and date farming in the Gulf region, the work reflects on how commodities circulate through bodies and environments over time. Pearls and dates are evoked through surface and texture rather than direct representation.Through material instability and tactile presence, the sculpture considers how histories remain embedded in gesture and substance, persisting beyond narrative or fixed image.
